Cloud physics on the Zugspitze

Arrival Information

Tickets for your train ride from Garmisch Partenkirchen to Zugspitzplatt were deposited at the Zugspitzbahnhof in Garmisch Partenkirchen. You can pick them up at the counter, state that you're a participant at a Max-Planck conference at the Schneefernerhouse, give your name, and pay a small fee.

At the Zugspitzplatt you can get lunch. Then take the cable car to Schneefernerhaus (not the cable car to the summit). I sent an email to all participants with my phone number. Please text me if you have any problems.

Scope

The topic of this conference is the role of turbulence in cloud microphysics, in particular its effect on the size distribution of cloud droplets, and on the dynamics and growth of ice crystals in cold clouds, as well as their impact on precipitation. The participants study these questions using different methods: lab experiments, in situ observations, computer simulations, and theory.

The conference takes place at the Schneefernerhaus, a research station at 2650m altitude on the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain near Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Dates: April 11-14 (2023)

Location: Schneefernerhaus, Zuspitze.

Organisers: E. Bodenschatz and B. Mehlig

Travel. We booked rooms at the Schneefernerhaus on the Zugspitze for April 11-14. On April 11 we take the train at 11:15 in the morning from Garmisch Partenkirchen to the Zugspitzplatt, where we plan to have lunch. After lunch we continue to the Schneefernerhaus. Please note that you must book your own hotel room in Garmisch Partenkirchen for the night April 10/11.
